03 — Featured impact

2024 · Crust Microfinance Bank

Gender inclusion through better-designed finance.

Product innovation

Gender Loans

In 2024, Cynthia designed and introduced a gender-focused financial product at Crust MFB to address some of the distinctive barriers faced by women in Northern Nigeria.

01

The challenge

Religious, cultural and social limitations meant that many women had restricted opportunities to participate meaningfully in business and economic activity. Conventional credit products did not always reflect how, where or within what constraints these women could build livelihoods.

02

The response

Cynthia developed a solution that enabled women to access funding and grow businesses without requiring them to compromise their religious or cultural practices. Eligible activities ranged from petty trading within their own spaces to acquiring income-generating assets.

03

Accessible finance

She also helped ensure that the credit was offered at a reduced interest rate, improving affordability and encouraging women who might otherwise have remained outside formal lending to participate.

Designed for economic agency

The initiative created a practical pathway for women to build sustainable businesses, strengthen financial independence and contribute more meaningfully to their households and communities.

04 — Experience

A career shaped by progression, performance and purpose.
